A man has been charged with drunken driving and vehicle-related homicide after two British employees of an upstate New York summer camp were run down and killed, state police said.
They were with five other workers standing by a road near Camp Echo Lake when a car veered into the group in Warrensburg, about 60 miles north of Albany, state troopers said.
They were identified as 21-year-old Dominic Hartley and 21-year-old Emily Lewis.
A camp spokeswoman said Mr Hartley was a counsellor from England and Ms Lewis was from Scotland. She worked in the camp office. Another counsellor was treated for minor injuries.
Peter Goldblatt, of Indian Lake, was arraigned on charges of driving while intoxicated and aggravated vehicular homicide.
Goldblatt, 39, is being held on $500,000 (£332,707) bail.
