Wirral Age UK volunteers enjoy special treat at Hilton Liverpool

VOLUNTEERS at Age UK in Wirral were treated to a musical afternoon tea at the Hilton Liverpool.

The event was a thank you to a team of 20 unpaid volunteers who assist the charity on a regular basis to look after elderly and vulnerable people in our society.

The team of volunteers give up their leisure time to work in the charity shops, man the Age UK Wirral helpline – which takes up to 12,000 calls a year – and care for the elderly in the community.

The ladies enjoyed the finest English Tea, served with a selection of finger sandwiches, cakes, scones and fondant fancies, in the Hotels PIMA Bar and relaxed to the mellow sounds of crooner Alan Cross.

Age UK’s Lynne Hamilton said: “We are absolutely delighted that the Hilton Liverpool has recognised the contribution made by our volunteers, without whom we would not be able to operate.

“They play such a valuable role for the elderly and vulnerable in our society, this is a lovely gesture and a unique way of thanking them.

Hilton Liverpool general manager Marcus Magee said: “Caring for the elderly can be hard work and challenging. I am delighted, on behalf of Hilton Hotels, to be able to recognise the sacrifice that the Age UK Wirral volunteers make to bring support and comfort into the lives of the elderly.”
