AN APPEAL has been launched for musicians to join a Wirral orchestra.
The Wirral Cooperative Orchestra is a group of friendly amateur musicians that has being going since the 1930s.
It is sponsored by Wirral Cooperative Society and operates an open admission system, which means that there is no audition.
Musicians can come along regardless of experience, instrument or age.
Weekly rehearsals are held in Birkenhead and are informal and friendly, geared towards encouraging the best performances from members to develop further.
The orchestra performs several concerts each year, mainly charity events.
The repertoire is always varied and challenging with music ranging from a variety of light classical music, medleys from musical shows, film themes and other popular pieces.
Jan Modelski was recently appointed as conductor and musical director.
Originally from London, Jan has lived in the area for more than 20 years and is a professional musician with many years’ experience as a conductor, performer and orchestral arranger.
Those who can play an instrument to any standard are welcome to a free taster session.
Rehearsals are held each Thursday at Charing Cross Methodist Neighbourhood Centre in Claughton Road, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Members pay a small subscription charge.
