IT is that time of year again, when we all ponder what the New Year will bring and decide what our goals and ambitions for the forthcoming year will be, writes Samantha Archibald, events manager.
Whether it’s challenging ourselves to overcome a fear, get fit or achieve a lifelong dream – now is the time we put our plans into action.
Very often, it’s difficult to keep up our New Year’s resolutions with the cold and dark nights, and so that’s why so many of us choose something to aim for to keep us on track.
This year has been no different for our fundraising team, as we’ve been pondering what we will be doing this year and already we’re joining our supporters and signing up for an array of events as an incentive to help with our healthy living plans, fitness goals and diets.
From a sky dive in March, to a marathon in May and overseas adventure cycling across Madagascar in October, we’re each taking on a new challenge to help us achieve our goals.
So we thought it might help those of you still contemplating what you can do this year if we shared some of the events we have coming up.
For anyone wanting to challenge themselves to do something daring or conquer their fear of heights, we will be taking to the skies on Sunday, March 30 to complete a tandem Skydive from 10,000ft, with the opportunity to increase this to 15,000ft for the ultimate daredevil at the Black Knights Parachute Centre.
On Sunday, April 27 you will have the opportunity to spend a relaxing day at the beach with your family and friends at our Beside the Seaside Walk at Crosby Marina, home of Anthony Gormley’s Another Place, with a choice of 5k and 8k walks. As well as spending quality time together it’s also a great way to keep to your plans of getting fit.
For aspiring or seasoned runners wanting to try a marathon, Liverpool has the honour of hosting the first UK Rock N Roll Marathon, a series of worldwide marathon events. At every mile point, a band or DJ will be playing live music to make this one of the most exciting and atmospheric marathons we have seen, definitely a must for runners new to the marathon scene.
There’s also a post- marathon concert so family and friends who have supported you around the course can come and join in the fun – with those of us still capable of standing, that is!
Following on from our amazing cycling adventure last November, which saw a team of cyclists tackle Cycle Nepal for Clatterbridge, we’ll be taking to our saddles once more in October to take on the challenge of Cycle Madagascar. Our team will be cycling 300miles across one of the world’s most unique islands, home to a host of unique animals, birds and plant life.
It’s an amazing opportunity to explore the island and experience the true culture of Madagascar as we head off the beaten track.
Alternatively, if you can’t wait until October our cyclists will also be back on the road as they cycle from London to Paris in May.
So whatever your hopes for 2014, hopefully we’ve given you some ideas.
