WE couldn’t raise the funds we need to support patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre without our fantastic volunteer fundraisers.
I was privileged to be invited to attend an event recently organised by Sue Myers, who arranged a lovely afternoon tea at her home in Bromborough.
The event was in memory of her close friend and business partner Catherine Dipple, who sadly passed away in January 2012 after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
There were lots of scrumptious cakes, sandwiches and tea being served with many of Sue and Catherine’s friends attending. The afternoon was a huge success, raising £488 towards the pioneering research we undertake here at the centre.
Catherine was under the care of Prof Daniel Palmer at the centre, who is a leading figure in the research of cancer of the pancreas – a cancer that is still relatively rare.
Sue told us: “When someone who is dear to you receives such a dreadful diagnosis it leaves you feeling totally inadequate, there is absolutely nothing you can do.
“Cathy and I had been friends for over 20 years and she had always supported cancer research. It was so sad to see her deteriorate and not be able to do anything about it, she was incredibly brave.
“The only way this dreadful disease will be combated is through research and this takes money, every little helps, and an afternoon tea was a lovely way to remember Cathy with friends who cared about her and raise a little money at the same time”.
The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity raises money towards vital research at the centre, who are leading the way in many areas of cancer research.
Our clinical trials team are constantly working to identify new treatments and drugs that could give hope to more cancer patients in the future. The money donated at this event will go towards helping fund ground-breaking research and it is our hope one day it will lead to a breakthrough that could save many more lives.
