A BUTCHER’S shop in Wirral was crowned Best in the North West for its Jubilee Burger.
A delighted Muff’s of Bromborough has been named champion of the pork burger category with their celebratory Jubilee offering.
Judges also gave it a prestigious gold award.
Muff’s, a family-run business, picked up the award at the North West Butchers Roadshow and Pork Product Excellence Awards, which took place in Bolton.
The competition was organised by BPEX, and had 250 entries from 40 butchers in the region, competing across 12 categories.
Muff’s award-winning recipe impressed judges with its great flavour combinations and freshness – packed full of locally produced cheese, jalapenos and spring onions.
The family butcher has been trading for almost 40 years.
Butcher Stephen Muff said: “I’m overwhelmed that our jubilee pork burger won the champion title.
“We haven’t been making it for very long – in fact this was the first time it had been entered into any awards, making it even more of a great result.
“We pride ourselves on using only the best quality ingredients available – our pork is locally sourced from North Wales to give customers tasty pork and pork products every day.
“The Jubilee uses a mix of local pork and fresh ingredients to produce a flavoursome burger that is a hit with our customers – and now the Roadshow judges too!”
Muff's also won gold for their traditional pork sausage, and three silver awards for speciality pork products.
Keith Fisher, BPEX butchery and product development manager, added: “It was fantastic to see such a great turnout from butchers in the region, to what is our tenth season of product evaluations.
“We are continually impressed by the standards shown each year, which makes judging incredible hard. From the 250 entries, half went away with a gold award – scoring 95-100 points out of 100.
“This is real testament to the quality to be found in butchers and farm shops in the North West.”
