THE Light Cinema – on New Brighton's waterfront – has introduced 'autism friendly' screenings of films for youngsters.
The cinema has been a supporter of the Wirral Autistic Society for some time, having staged a live fund-raising concert by local bands and now adopting the society's Lifetime Appeal to fund much-needed purpose built accommodation for clients.
The first special screening for autism sufferers and their families has just been shown, involving softer sound and lighting. Films for youngsters will be shown once a month and the cinema is now looking at introducing adult films in the same format.
Full details of the specialist screenings and other ways the cinema is helping to support the estimated 800 Wirral families hit by autism are available by calling 0151 214 1370.
The cinema is also hoping to take on one of the society's clients under a Step Into Work scheme, which involves training clients keen to get into work and putting them on work placement for three months.
