UNWANTED school uniforms are needed for a free uniform scheme in Wirral.
The recycling scheme called Free Uniforms for Schools (Fuss) was set up by Sheila Fowler to help kit out children for free and lessen the cost to families.
Wirral has 25 secondary schools, with only several schools signed up.
They are West Kirby Grammar, Calday Grammar, Hilbre High, Upton Hall, St Anselm’s, Mosslands, Prenton Girls High, Wirral Girls Grammar, Bebington High and Woodchurch High.
So, not every school is involved and these parents have asked for help especially children starting a new school in September.
But Sheila doesn’t have a wide variety of uniforms and is desperate to help families in need.
Uniforms needed are for Pensby High School, Neston High School and St Mary’s Catholic High.
Sheila, from Hoylake, said: “Since the article appeared in the Wirral News I have been inundated with appeals, offers of help, and donations.
“I have heard horrific stories about families in need and many have been affected by the bedroom tax.
“Unfortunately we don’t have uniforms for all the schools in Wirral, and families have come forward asking for them.
“We need a Pensby High School uniform for a girl who will be starting Year 7 next term and a Neston High School uniform for a 14-year-old boy with any items welcome.
“A family of another Year 7 new starter at St Mary’s Catholic High have asked for school clothes for their daughter. They are struggling to buy food and can’t afford to buy a uniform.
“So any donations for these three families would be gratefully accepted.
“Also we don’t have many items for Woodchurch High, so we need more donations for that school.
“We can pick donations if it is difficult for people to get to Tranmere or Hoylake.”
The Fuss scheme was set up last July and has grown successfully.
Sheila will be at Asda Woodchurch on Saturday, August 10, from 11am-2pm to collect unwanted school uniforms to redistribute.
She added: “The scheme has grown so quickly in just a year.
“Now a teacher from Liverpool has been in touch and wants me to help start a Fuss scheme in Liverpool. Now I am on a mission!”
Collection times for parents to get free uniforms have been revised and are as follows:
Monday, August 19, at Tranmere Methodist Church, from 10am-2pm.
Tuesday, August 20, at St Luke’s Methodist Church, Hoylake, between 2pm and 4.30pm.
Those who cannot make the collections can reserve a uniform by visiting www.wirralfuss.co.uk.
