Original Dark Lord, David Prowse MBE, unveils Darth Vader mask for Wirral Star Wars event

STAR Wars fans are in for a special treat this weekend when the original Darth Vader drops in.

David Prowse, MBE, who performed in the original Star Wars trilogy is visiting Spaceport’s sci-fi event on March 9 and 10.

His visit to Spaceport in Seacombe is the first time in over six years, ahead of his attendance at Megacon in Orlando, USA.

Fans will be given the opportunity to get autographs and photographs (additional charges apply) with the most infamous villain in cinema history.

Cllr Liam Robinson, chair of Merseytravel, said: “This is the fourth time we have hosted a Star Wars weekend at Spaceport and the popularity grows with each event.

“There is a huge appetite for Star Wars, the characters and the gadgets, with people of all ages taking a real interest.”

Enthusiasts have the chance to see a range of prop replicas and memorabilia from the Star Wars universe, including a Death Star display.

Visitors will also be able to attend a sci-fi workshop and mingle with over 20 costumed characters including Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, Jedi, and Boba Fett, whilst exploring Spaceport's interactive, hands-on exhibits.

The event has been organised in conjunction with Star Wars re-enactment groups, The 99th Garrison and Mint Imperials.

Paul Truesdale, 99th Garrison membership officer, added: “Members from all over the country including Merseyside, Lancashire, the Midlands and North East will be coming to the event.

“The Spaceport event offers our members a great opportunity to meet up and indulge in our passion for science fiction, to enjoy ourselves, make people smile and help charities.

“This is one of our biggest events of the year and I would invite anyone interested in Star Wars to come along and enjoy the day.”

Tickets cost £8.50 adult, £6 child and £24 for a family. Buy your ticket in advance and enjoy a free Mersey Ferry trip.
