PENNY for your thoughts! The first photo in our new weekly look back at Wirral life over the years is from 1966 and shows the annual Mile Of Pennies event in aid of St John Ambulance.
The official start was outside the Floral Pavilion Theatre in New Brighton.
We’re reliably informed that if you look closely, you’ll see that the ambulance boasts a Wallasey LHF number plate.
The children in this photo are now in their 50s – are you one of them?
Did you contribute to the line of pennies – and did they ever stretch to a mile? And do you know what happened to the event or when it ended?
