A FORMER teacher was chosen as the Conservative candidate for Wirral South in the next general election.
John Bell will be bidding to unseat Labour MP Alison McGovern in the constituency, which was number 87 on a list of Conservative targets in 2010.
Mr Bell, one of six children, was born and brought up in Liverpool and his dad worked as a boiler cleaner at Cammell Laird.
He said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won the confidence of party members in Wirral South.’’
Mr Bell has taught at secondary school level, the Welsh College of Horticulture and Deeside College and worked with apprentices at Airbus before retiring in December.
He stood for the Conservatives in Delyn, Wales, in the 2005 general election and is currently North Wales Area Chairman for the Welsh Conservatives.
He said: “My objective will be to represent Wirral South and return a majority Conservative government to Westminster in 2015.”
