Wirral’s finest make the cut in the National Television Awards shortlist

WIRRAL celebrities have made the cut in the National Television Awards shortlisty.

Paul O’Grady and Paul Hollywood were both given a nod as the final round of voting opened for the nation’s popular TV awards ceremony.

This year’s event will see local favourites O’Grady and Hollywood find themselves going head-to-head in the battle for the Factual Entertainment trophy.

Birkenhead-born presenter Paul is in with the chance of bringing home the prize for pet-lovers favourite Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs.

But the chat show host faces competition from Wirral celebrity baker Paul Hollywood as the Great British Bake Off makes its National Television Awards debut.

Other nominees in the category were The Apprentice and Top Gear.

In recognition of London 2012, the awards will celebrate legacy and heritage.

The National Television Awards will pay homage to the UK’s greatest Olympic team in more than 100 years and a summer of sport that saw record TV audiences captivated by Olympic and Paralympic events.

A Landmark Award will be presented to honour key members of London 2012.

To accompany this presentation, organisers called on the public late last year to submit the London 2012 moment that shone most brightly for them.

A selection of these moments were hand-picked and will form a video montage to be played on the awards night.

The National Television Awards, at The O2 in London, will be shown live on ITV1 from 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 23.
