Dolly’s day meeting Wirral Mayor she would never forget

A NINETY-ONE-YEAR-OLD woman enjoyed the best day of her life when she was treated to sitting in the Mayor’s limousine.

Dolly Higgins was delighted when her dream came true and she got to meet Wirral’s Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Gerry Ellis and his wife Maggie.

She was invited to sit in the back of their chauffeur-driven limousine, as well and trying on the Mayoress’s chains.

Dolly’s wish was granted after being asked if there was anything she would like to achieve that she had not done so far.

The sprightly pensioner, who attends Kylemore Club for the Partially Sighted in Pensby, mentioned it and the volunteers got to work to make it happen.

Organiser Glynis Williams said: “Dolly was overjoyed and got the surprise of her life.

“The Mayor and Mayoress talked to all the members, then sat with them and enjoyed being entertained. They sang and played along with voluntary musical group ‘Memories’ who are always hugely appreciated.

“They stayed for lunch, and to put the icing on the cake, Dolly went and sat in the limo. As she said ‘A day she would never forget and the best of her life’. It was a joy to see her so happy.”

The club meet every Monday from 9.30am to 2pm with members of all ages. Tea and toast and a hot meal for lunch is served along with activities – all for a £2 charge. Anyone interested in joining call Helplink 648 3322.
