RESIDENTS are being asked to be wary of cold callers trying to con them out of money by claiming to work with Wirral Council.
Wirral Trading Standards have received several reports of door-to-door salespeople falsely claiming that they are working alongside the council or providing government grants for “roof spraying” services or insulation work.
The council says they only work with Energy Projects Plus and British Gas to deliver free loft and cavity insulation to privately rented and owner occupied households.
And they add anyone calling at the door to offer these services will be carrying official identification which residents should ask for.
Cllr Brian Kenny, Wirral Council cabinet member for environment, said: “This seems to be becoming an alarming trend, people falsely claiming to be working for or on behalf of the council in an attempt to con vulnerable people.
“Always find out what organisation they are from and ask to see official ID.”
