AN UNUSUAL theatre prop will be used in a Wirral drama group’s production of Victoria Wood's award-winning Acorn Antiques the Musical.
When Mrs Overall makes her starlit entrance on stage during the St Paul’s Operatic Society production, she will be on a fully operational Acorn Stairlift, loaned from the Yorkshire-based firm.
Show creator Victoria Wood once said that Mrs Overall's grand entrance on the stairlift is “one of the centrepieces” of the musical, and her stance has been adopted by theatre groups across the country.
St Paul's Operatic Society is staging the comedy from Wednesday, June 20 to Saturday, June 23 at the Gladstone Theatre in Port Sunlight.
The role of Mrs Overall will be played by Penny Morris in her first performance with St Paul’s.
She told News: “We are looking forward to using the stairlift in the show, it will add to the show’s comedy and it’s a fabulous stage setting.
“We are now putting the finishing touches to the production and can’t wait for the curtains to go up.”
Acorn Antiques: the Musical is being performed at the Gladstone Theatre, Port Sunlight, from Wednesday, June 20 to Saturday, June 23.
Tickets cost £15 from the box office on 643 8757 or www.gladstonetheatre.org.uk
