Woodchurch flats evacuated after suspected arson attack

THREE men were bailed by police after being questioned about a suspected arson attack at a block of flats in Wirral.

The three men, aged 21, 24 and 26 all from the Woodchurch area were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Firefighters were called to Cheverton Close, Woodchurch, at around 3.40am on Sunday.

Residents had to be evacuated from the property.

One woman, who had left the building before fire crews arrived, was taken to Arrowe Park hospital with suspected smoke inhalation and for a precautionary check-up.

A man was also treated for shock at the scene by paramedics.

A joint investigation into the cause of the fire was launched by police and fire chiefs following the early morning incident.
