Student from Wirral organises a string of charity concerts in memory of her grandad

A WIRRAL student has organised a string of charity concerts in memory of her grandad.

Lilli Moore is holding three themed concerts at Fort Perch Rock in New Brighton, each with a Merseybeat vibe, county and folk, and 1940’s war time melody.

The 21-year-old from Upton has put on the extravaganza in memory of her grandad Ronald Moore, who passed away from lung cancer in February 2010 aged 75.

Since then, Lilli has wanted to help Cancer Research and has so far raised £5,000 from a variety show in 2010.

Lilli, who is a second year student at Chester University doing teacher training in drama and singing, said:

“Grandpa was an inquisitive man, intrigued by the world around him, he loved history and science. He was a brilliant artist who enjoyed painting as a hobby.

“We used to sit for hours watching musical films together, we were like two peas in a pod.

“Every time I was with him I learnt something new, he always had an interesting fact for me wherever we went.

“He was there at my first gig cheering me on from the sidelines, and came to every one of my performances right up until he was too unwell to attend.

“But he would ask for a song when I visited him and his favourite song was Don't Cry for me Argentina, which I sang for him at his funeral.

“He was extremely caring and giving always having time for others, and always able to make us laugh, though not always intentionally. He will be deeply missed, but will always remain in our hearts.”

A line up of performers have donated their time to perform for the cause, including 60s band The Mojos, The Loop Duo, John Armstrong, Harriet Jane Marsland, James Smith and many others.

Lilli and her brother Lee, 16, and sister Tina, 12, will all be performing on stage.

Mr Moore’s widow, Lilli’s nan, Ruby said: “I think its wonderful when these young ones will put so much time and energy into raising funds for Cancer Research.

“I am so proud of my granddaughter for putting the show together and spending so much of her time doing it.”

The first concert on May 19 is a Merseybeat and 60s night, following that is a folk and country evening on June 16.

War time swing from 1920s to 1950s will be showcased on July 14 with more than 20 military vehicles on a show at the fort.

Lilli added: “We hope to raise £4,000 from the three concerts.”
