THE Parade in Parkgate has reopened after a three-week closure sparked by safety fears over the former Mostyn House school.
Cheshire West and Chester Council ordered the road to be closed to traffic between Little Lane and Station Road because of concerns over the condition of a wall by the school’s former play area.
The owners of the school told the News they believed part of a 3m stretch of wall over a play area was damaged in storms at the end of January.
A survey found part of the wall had moved and remedial work needed to be carried out to stabilise it.
A council spokesman said: “A single carriageway has opened under temporary traffic signals to allow the flow of two-way traffic.
“Scaffolding on the building concerned has been completed and the site is fully fenced off and secure.
“The current traffic arrangements will remain in place until the building repair work is completed.”
Mostyn House was founded in 1854 in Tarvin and moved to Parkgate in 1855. It closed in 2010 after the number of students fell below a “viable level”.
