Biffa staff raise £1,200 for fund

BIFFA workers raised £1,200 for Claire House Hospice.

Staff at Wirral Council’s waste contractor were given the money to donate to a local charity after achieving 800,000 working hours without a lost time accident.

Roger Edwards, Biffa’s municipal director, said: “This is a remarkable achievement within this industry and is due to the professional attitude the crews adopt when collecting waste and cleaning streets across Wirral.”

Cllr Dave Mitchell, Wirral Council’s cabinet member for Streetscene and transport services added: “The weather last year meant some very difficult working conditions so to go a full year without a lost time accident is a fantastic feat.

“Biffa crews do a great job on behalf of Wirral residents, meaning that bins are emptied and streets cleaned both effectively and safely.”

The money was presented to Claire House fundraiser Kirsty Wright.
