A MERSEYRAIL guard appeared in court over the death of a Wirral teenager at a Liverpool train station.
Christopher McGee, 45, appeared at Liverpool magistrates’ court last Thursday charged with the manslaughter by gross negligence of 16-year-old Georgia Varley, from Moreton, who died last year.
McGee, of Edenhurst Avenue, Wallasey, stood for the short hearing while Georgia’s family and friends looked on from the back of the room.
He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.
His solicitor Patrick Cassidy said his client wanted to “sincerely express his condolences to the parents, family and friends of Georgia Varley for the loss of their daughter and friend.”
Georgia was travelling into Liverpool on October 22 with friends when tragedy struck at James Street station.
The Birkenhead Sixth Form student is thought to have mistakenly got off the train a stop too early and, in her attempts to get back on board, slipped down between the moving train and the platform.
McGee was given bail until March 8.
