Search for Wirral Fairtrade Champions continues

YOU could be a Wirral Fairtrade Champion.

As part of the borough’s year- long focus on Fairtrade, Wirral Council is searching for organisations embodying the values of Fairtrade, promote its use and use its products.

Champions are being sought in the following areas: cafe, restaurant, retailer, general business, school, faith group and voluntary sector organisation.

Winners will be given an award on March 24 at Wirral’s big Fairtrade celebration in Heswall Hall. They will also receive a goody bag and a chance to promote their organisation in the Wirral News.

The search is also on for a unique person to become the Fairtrade Champion of Wirral. We want readers to help us find that person whose commitment to the Fairtrade cause is an example to us all.

Wirral was first recognised as a Fairtrade borough in 2006, and Cllr Mark Johnston is taking the lead on renewing its status.

He said: “We need to hear from as many organisations as possible which use or sell Fairtrade products.

“Ideally, we are looking for those which use four or more brands or types of Fairtrade products.

“Even if you only use a couple of products, still email and let us know.” The closing date for Fairtrade Champion nominees is February 28.

To nominate an organisation or to get in touch about the Fairtrade products your organisation uses, email pam@la21.net

Firms should give their name and list pro- ducts they use or sell.

Cllr Johnston added: “Don’t forget to pop into your library or the larger Co-op food stores and ask for free Wirral Loves Fairtrade window stickers.

“Stick them on your cars and shop windows, and help Wirral celebrate its long association with Fairtrade.”
