Tranmere Rovers close section of stadium

TRANMERE Rovers has been forced to close a section of their stadium after it was damaged in strong winds.

The Town End section of Prenton Park’s main stand was closed to fans for the game against Bury on Friday.

The move follows Tranmere Rover’s Boxing Day match being cancelled after part of the roof blew off.

Thousands of football fans had to be turned away when the game was postponed, 90 minutes before kick-off time, following consultations between the police, club staff and match officials.

Match-day staff, players and officials were evacuated from the ground and thousands of supporters turned away by police as they approached.

Structural engineers have been called in to assess the damage

Chief executive Mick Horton said: “We apologise to all supporters affected not only by the closure of this part of the main stand but also by the postponement of the Boxing Day game against Rochdale.”
