Fundraising campaign to send Wirral mum Sue Saul abroad for lifesaving treatment reaches halfway mark

A CAMPAIGN to send a Wirral mum for lifesaving treatment abroad has reached the halfway mark.

Mum-of-two Susan Saul, from Pensby, is suffering from the rare bone cancer osteosarcoma, which was diagnosed after the birth of her second daughter.

Medics have given her just three months to live but her friends and family are trying to raise £50,000 to send her to Germany or China for potentially life-saving treatment.

So far they have collected £25,000 through fundraising events including a curry night, bike ride, hairdressing event, charity night and daredevil jumps.

Family friend and charity organiser Ian Carroll told the News: “We are now at the half way point with £25,000 raised.

“We have been given two cheques of £1,000 each from EasiDrive and Hoylake Crash Repair Centre. A charity football match took place on Sunday which raised £810, another £900 came from a charity night at the Casa and money is coming in from a parachute jump.”

Susan, mum to Seren, eight, and Estelle, four, added: “It is overwhelming and incredible what has been accomplished in six weeks.

“I feel very blessed by it all. I never thought in a million years we would receive this response. I’m blown away.

“It is astonishing at how much is going on with all the events, it has given me so much hope that we are going to get there.

“I haven’t been too good lately – my hip is decaying and I have got to take it easy so it doesn’t break. Because of this I haven’t had the opportunity to thank people and I’m really sorry to everyone.

“It has been overwhelming and I feel so lucky and so thankful for that.”

More fundraisers are taking place in the coming weeks as Sue’s friends and family make a final push to reach the £50,000 target.

Ian added: “Sue is still getting treatment from the NHS, but this treatment abroad is experimental and groundbreaking.

“We have just got to keep on going until we reach our £50,000 target.

“Sue is absolutely thrilled with everyone’s efforts. Hopefully she will get the treatment very, very soon.’’
