Two people died on the West Kirby line on consecutive days

TWO people died on the West Kirby line last week.

Karren Jane Grist was seen walking on to the tracks at around 6.50am on Tuesday, before being hit by a train.

The next day, a man, who is yet to be identified, was killed at around 10am on the line near Moreton.

An inquest into Karren Grist’s death was opened and adjourned last week.

It heard the 51-year-old had lived at Melrose Residential Home on Melrose Avenue for around six months, under a community treatment order made due to mental health issues.

At 5.45am on the day of her death, Karren had a cup of cappuccino at home, and at 6.45am she had a drink with staff members.

Five minutes later she was seen wandering onto the tracks at the Melrose Avenue crossing, her arms outstretched. The driver braked in an effort to avoid her.

She survived the impact but died at Arrowe Park Hospital at 7.46am.

A post-mortem was due to take place on the body of the man who died at Moreton as the News went to press.
