WIRRAL Council has launched the new 2011 Food and Drink guide for local and visiting “foodies” alike.
With Wirral’s reputation for gastronomy on the rise, so too is the number of tourists flocking to the peninsula.
The new guide informs the public of the best and the beautiful when it comes to potential or present restaurants including, Wirral’s homegrown BBC Master Chef, Claire Lara’s new soon-to-be restaurant in Hoylake.
Michelin star restaurant, Fraiche, in Oxton village, is also included within the guide.
Ross Gray from the Peninsula Dining Room, highlighted in the 2011 Which Good Food Guide, said: “Last year’s guide was really popular with the addition of drinks venues, the new addition will help to raise the profile of local food and drink even further.”
One of those new additions to the guide is the Wro Bar, Loft and Lounge in West Kirby which is a two-time winner of TMP Merseyside Tourism Bar of the Year award.
Owner, Sally Boyd, said: “What makes Wirral special is the diversity of places to eat and drink. There is a real eclectic mix of venues and the new Food and Drink guide will really help to raise awareness of what’s on offer.
With the Wirral Food and Drink Festival attracting a mass of 25,000 food lovers to Claremont Farm last year, it was no surprise that organiser and farmer, Andrew Pimbley, was awarded the Food Champion accolade at last year’s Wirral Tourism Awards.
He said: “There are some real gems to be found in Wirral as far as food and drink is concerned. Our local produce is highly sought after by chefs across the region.”
