A TAXI driver was cleared of raping a teenager twice after picking her up following a night out.
Jurors took about four hours to find Neil Hayes, 46, not guilty of attacking the 19-year-old girl in his private hire car.
The teenager had been out in Birkenhead celebrating her sister’s birthday when Hayes picked her up in Conway Street.
Hayes, of Brook Street, Birkenhead, admitted collecting the teen, but he denied two counts of rape in the early hours of July 4 last year.
He told jurors that all the sexual activity between them was consensual, after he pulled up in a secluded location off the A41.
Hayes told the court he had indulged the teenager after she made a pass at him, adding that she had initiated the sexual contact between them.
Hayes was discharged from the dock.
