WITH ASDA set to spend £40million developing their new superstore, Birkenhead market traders are preparing to “embrace” the development.
Marketing manager at the well-established market, Danny Doyle says there are some concerns amongst traders but he believes everyone must “look at the bigger picture”.
Danny said: “The town has never recovered from losing ASDA years ago and has needed a major foodstore, and obviously we’ve got to trade around that.
“Some of the traders we’ve got in here are niche traders, selling cheeses or cooked meats, or the fishmongers – it’s all very specialised.
“And with all due respect to the supermarkets, they do have butchery departments but they don’t have butchers, as we do.
“So I hope the niche element of the market comes through and we can trade together for the benefit of the town.”
