Wirral International Film Festival 2010 draws to a successful close as Bebington film-maker, Joe Boulton picks up the Wirral News Award

WIRRAL International Film Festival (WIFF) 2010 came to a successful conclusion on Saturday, as Bebington film-maker Joe Boulton picked up the Wirral News Award.

The gong, which is based entirely on audience vote, was reward for his animation Rubiks Cube Adventure, which Joe shot in just three days.

Managing director of Out the Bag Productions, Paula Rowlands, who watched all the films shown as part of a the judging panel, hailed the short for its “comedy aspect”.

Paula said: “ It was really, really good, very colourful and really creative.

“I think it was so popular because there was a little bit of a comedy aspect to it.

“To get comedy out of a rubiks cube - and Barbie and Ken - I thought was really entertaining.”

It was a night of notable successes for WIFF, as 2008 Under 16 award winner, Andrew Fisher showed his development by picking up the Best Composer trophy for his Solitary score and Leave Taking, a film by Laurence Easeman, grabbed Best Director for a Short Film and the Alan Clark Award for outstanding achievement.

WIFF co-organiser Alan Veste said: “It was absolutely fantastic, brilliant, the entire event was amazing and we had a really good turnout.

“The one word everyone kept saying was ‘inspirational’, and that’s our logo, inspired by dreams, created by imagination.

“It will get bigger and bigger.”

Paula Rowlands added: “It’s what Wirral needs to really put it on the map.

“Everything seems to be focused on Liverpool but we’re over here and it’s nice that something has started that is eventually going to be massive.”
