RNLI plans new Wirral lifeboat station

A WIRRAL lifeboat station could be on the move to try to gain quicker access to the Mersey.

New Brighton Lifeboat wants to move fromKings Parade to the Tower Grounds site where it will have an easier route to the river.

But New Brighton councillor Tony Pritchard has raised concerns and will be asking the cabinet to consult with local people before making a decision.

The RNLI wants to build a station to accommodate both craft on Tower Grounds, which is currently zoned as urban green space.

Cllr Pritchard said he would be asking the council not to make any agreement until there had been consultation with user groups and local residents.

He said: “There has been a lot of work on restoring the Tower Grounds in recent years.”
