Wirral potholes update: the latest on your top ten pothole problem areas

LAST month we went pothole potty and asked you to name Wirral’s worst road surfaces.

Three weeks on, Wirral Council says most of the potholes readers complained about, caused by road surfaces deteriorating in icy conditions and continual gritting in some places, have now been fixed.

Here’s an update on the pothole problems you highlighted:

Leominster Road, Wallasey, Tower Road South Heswall and Ellens Lane, Port Sunlight – pothole repairs have been completed.

Ashville Road/Dawpool Drive, Bromborough– some minor repairs have been undertaken but further concrete repairs are proposed.

Mill Hill Road, Irby – the road surface at the junction with Thingwall Road will be resurfaced to eliminate the remaining potholes.

Palatine Road, Bromborough, Well Lane, Heswall, junction of Village Road/ Thurstaston Road/ Delavor Road– potholes to be repaired by resurfacing sections of the road.

In Coventry Street and St John Street, Birkenhead town centre, some work has been carried out to deal with the worst of the potholes.

However, Wirral Council says these roads are part of the retail development proposed for this area of Birkenhead and are continually being dug up by utility companies installing new services to the development.

Cabinet Member for Streetscene and Transport, Councillor Jean Quinn said: “Our highways maintenance contractor Colas has already completed some repair work and further inspection and assessment at other sites is ongoing.

“The Council has dealt with this quickly and I am happy that it is being seen as a priority.”
