Neston Cricket and Tennis Club host only Sport Relief mile in Wirral

SPORT Relief is just a fortnight away and Neston Cricket and Tennis Club is the only venue in Wirral offering the chance to test your endurance.

Between March 19 and 21, fundraisers throughout the UK will be taking part in an activity to generate cash for the same charities that benefit from the long-running Comic Relief.

And the headline event of the weekend is the Sport Relief mile, but you’ll have to head down to Neston if you want to take part.

The cricket and tennis club is offering three runs, each of differing length and aimed at a mix of ages, fitness levels and enthusiasm.

At 2pm, on Sunday March 21, the one mile event takes place.

This is followed by three and six mile events, both commencing at 3pm.

Anyone can come down and join in, and if you don’t feel up to running the whole way, walking and jogging will not be frowned upon.

If you do take part, you won’t be alone.

Thousands of participants have already signed up across the UK, and famous people from sport and screen will also be doing their bit.

Following David Walliams incredible feat swimming the channel, comedian and sometime cross dresser, Eddie Izzard ran a marathon a day earlier this year to raise vital funds.

Cash generated is spread across charities from the UK and abroad, including Wirral charities.

Age Concern Wirral has already benefited from a grant of just below £110,000 through Sport Relief, while Tranmere Rovers in the Community, a project aimed at encouraging young people into sport, received just short of £90,000.

If you head down for the mile on Sunday March 21, Neston Cricket and Tennis Club is also offering a barbecue to keep you well fed after all that exercise.

And if you’re in the mood for more, the tennis section is hosting an open day.
