Ex-servicemen complain about Wallasey Town Hall’s Union Flag flying full mast on Remembrance Sunday

EX-SERVICEMEN say they were shocked to find Wallasey Town Hall locked up and its flag flying at full mast on Remembrance Sunday.

But Wirral Council has denied a snub.

One man who contacted the News said: “I’m in my 70s and it’s hard for me to get to the service in Hamilton Square. I wanted to pay my respects at the roll of honour inside the Town Hall but I couldn’t believe it when I found it all closed up.”

A council spokesman said: “The regulations circulated by Her Majesty’s Command about the flying of the Union Flag on Remembrance Sunday state that the flag should be flown at full mast all day.

“The main civic ceremony to commemorate Remembrance Sunday took place, as it has done for many years, at Hamilton Square around the war memorial and cenotaph.”
