Careers event for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to take place at Hulme Hall

A SPECIAL event to help Wirral’s young people with learning difficulties and disabilities plan for their futures will be held at Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight on October 20.

Your Future, Your Choice aims to give school leavers, parents and carers the information they need to plan steps into further education, training and employment.

Training providers, employers and organisations specialising in support for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities will be on hand to offer advice.

The free one-day event has been organised by Wirral Council, Wirral PCT, Connexions, the Learning and Skills Council and carers support groups.

Research shows young people with learning difficulties and disabilities are twice as likely to drop out of education or become unemployed after school.

Peter Burgess, team manager for Transition Services at Wirral Council, said: “There are many opportunities available to young people with learning difficulties and disabilities and Your Future, Your Choice aims to bring all that information together under one roof so young people, carers and parents can make the right choices.”

The event runs from 9am to 5pm.
