THE Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) is carrying out inquiries into a light aircraft’s landing on a Wirral beach.
The Ikarus C42, registered to West Lancashire Microlight School, landed on the foreshore at Hoylake, Wirral, at around 6.30pm on September 15.
It sparked a major rescue operation and the area was cordoned off by the Coastguard but the pilot was uninjured.
Merseyside Police has confirmed it is playing no part in subsequent inquiries and is treating the incident as a controlled landing.
A spokeswoman for the AAIB said they were now conducting an investigation by correspondence with the pilot and could not put a timescale on its findings.
