Chernobyl charity shop in Wirral receives helping hand from Wallasey MP Angela Eagle

A WIRRAL charity shop received a helping hand before its Christmas Toy Fair.

The Chernobyl Children’s Life Line shop in Wallasey opened in May to raise funds to bring youngsters living in Belarus to Wirral.

The shop in King St is run by 10 volunteers and sells quality second-hand clothes, goods and toys.

During six months of trading it has been a huge success, and Wallasey MP Angela Eagle congratulated them last week.

She was impressed with the generous donations for the Christmas Toy Fair, which kicks off in the shop this weekend.

Ms Eagle said: “There will be lots of lovely bargains on offer, and it is so good that every penny raised will go to such a good cause.”

Each June, the charity brings 18 children and two leaders to stay with Wirral families for a month’s recuperation, away from the radiation ever present in their homelands in Belarus.

Mum-of-two, Bernie O’Shea has been involved for six years and volunteers at the shop.

She said: “I have been doing it for six years and the children are lovely. We get as much from the visit as they do.”
