A MAN died after falling 50ft from a bridge over the approach road to the Wallasey tunnel, an inquest heard.
Motorists rushed to help Philip Bell, of Whetstone Lane, Birkenhead, but he was pronounced dead shortly after the incident in Wheatland Lane in May 2008.
Although Mr Bell was seen falling towards the carriageway, the Wallasey inquest was told there were no witnesses to the moment he left the bridge.
The 23-year-old, who suffered from schizophrenia, was sectioned two months before his death after his mental health deteriorated but was discharged when his condition stabilised.
Coroner’s officer Donald Johnston said: “One witness saw two females on the bridge close to his position as he fell. They were reportedly on the same side of the bridge but walking away from him in the direction of Birkenhead. Their identity is unknown.”
