POLICE are trying to trace a “suspicious” driver of a white van who approached a young girl.
The eight year-old was returning home after playing with friends when she was confronted by the man in Wallsingham Road, Wallasey.
Police said the man got out of a white van and walked up to her at around 4pm last Friday.
The girl managed to walk away and brought the incident to the attention of her parents who then contacted the police.
DI Mark Tivendale from Wirral CID, said incidents like this were rare and patrols had been stepped up.
He said: “This was clearly a worrying situation for this young girl as her parents have reported it to the police and we are taking her allegations seriously.
“We need to identify who this man is and what exactly happened in Wallsingham Road last Friday before we jump to conclusions about what he was trying to do.”
Schools alerting parents include Wallasey secondary Weatherhead High which advised pupils to travel with friends.
