A FORMER Oldershaw pupil who co-founded the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool was guest of honour at the school’s annual awards evening.
Martin Jenkins, who attended the Wallasey school from 1951 to 1958, handed out prizes for outstanding work at the event on Friday.
Outstanding effort and achievement awards went to Anna Lowe and Megan Jones from Year 12 and Kevin Tsang, Milly Duffy and Jennifer Canon, who all started university in September.
In a speech Mr Jenkins told the audience he had been inspired by some “fantastic” teachers during his time at Oldershaw and urged pupils to work hard to achieve their goals.
He went on to study at Liverpool University and then became a theatre director, a Shakespearean actor and director of drama at the BBC.
He was treated to two performances during the night including Under Pressure, an extract from the school’s forthcoming production of We Will Rock You.
Headteacher Steven Peach said: “We are delighted that Martin has been able to return to school and has shared so many wonderful memories with us.
“He has had such a distinguished career and has been a real encouragement to our pupils.”
