WALLASEY-based charity Stick ‘n’ Step has received a £6,000 fundraising boost.
The charity secured the Community Force grant from NatWest after an enthusiastic online voting campaign by supporters.
Stick ‘n’ Step provides free intensive conductive education therapy for around 70 children with cerebral palsy from across the North West and North Wales.
It plans to use the money to improve bathroom facilities at its centre in Croxteth Avenue.
Top of the list will be a height-adjustable sink, a special nappy-changing station for younger children and a low-level toilet for older children.
Fundraiser Kerry Roe-Ely said: “We used Facebook and Twitter to try to get as many people as possible to vote for us.
“We created an event page and invited all our Facebook friends, some of whom in turn invited their friends. We also encouraged everyone who came through our doors, including plumbers, to vote.
“We are a small charity and winning a grant this size means a great deal to us.
“We don't receive any funding from the Government and rely 100% on donations and grants. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us.”
Around 7,000 eligible charities and community projects in the UK applied to take part in Community Force.
Three groups in each of the 158 Community Force areas were given £6,000 each.
Sandra Bruce of NatWest Chester and Wirral said: “We’ve had a fantastic response and it’s clear that people in Wallasey are passionate about Stick ‘n’ Step.
“This certainly demonstrates how important this project is to the community.”
