Plain sailing for Wallasey Yacht Club when they hosted photography competition of New Brighton

SNAPPERS put themselves in the picture for a coastal photography competition.

Wallasey Yacht Club (WYC) asked photographers to enter pictures of New Brighton, taken over the past 12 months, with the aim of showing the area at its best.

More than 66 photographs were submitted by 30 photographers.

They were sorted into five categories – people, dusk and dawn, sailing, lighthouse and seaside.

James Scott Gobin picked up an award for best overall picture for his image Follow Me, which also won the lighthouse section.

Other winning snappers were: Mike Dignam, who won an award voted by members of the public for his shotFantastic; David Beaufort Dysart won the dusk and dawn section with Sailor’s Delight and the seaside category winner was Low Tide by Paul Kirwan.

Winning snap in the junior section was The Name is Bond by William Fishwick.

The competition was judged by members of Wallasey Amateur Photography Society.

Bob Warwick of the society said: “There’s been some real talent in the competition and it was nice to see New Brighton interpreted in so many ways.”

The event was the brainchild of WYC secretary Shaun Fanning, who wanted the club to help promote the area.

Shaun said: “New Brighton is an amazing area to visit and the high standard of the photographs shows the passion people have for New Brighton and the surrounding area.”

The photographs will be on display in New Brighton Heritage Centre in Victoria Road, New Brighton, and other venues later in November.
