A CONCERT in memory of a Wallasey woman raised £1,400 for a cancer centre.
The event at Wirral Grammar School for Boys in Bebington was organised by music teacher Peter Seaman to thank Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology, where his wife Margaret – known as Margie – was treated.
The 58-year-old died last year after a brave battle against bowel cancer.
Mr Seaman said the concert on October 20 “couldn’t have gone better” despite some last minute hitches including a singer being taken ill and radio presenter Billy Butler getting lost on his way to the school to host the show.
Teacher Amy Chalmers stepped in at the last minute to help perform duet Bist Du Bei Mir, which Mr Seaman arranged as his personal tribute to Margie.
He said: “The large audience were warm and appreciative and the performers excelled. Billy Butler proved a very funny and capable host and gave us all a very complimentary mention on his radio show the next day.
“I would like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who helped and supported the concert in any way, including the many kind donations and superb raffle prizes that added to the event.”
Half the proceeds from the event will go to Oncology Centre’s Delamere Ward, where Margie was cared for.
The other £700 will be used for research.
