Teenager rescued from house fire in Moreton
A TEENAGER was plucked to safety from a house blaze in Moreton.
Fire crews from Wallasey and Birkenhead were called to the terraced house in Chapelhill Road during the early hours of Thursday.
The distressed 13-year-old had climbed out of her bedroom window and on to a ledge in an attempt to flee the blaze.
Firefighters said the flames ripped through the first-floor bathroom. The landing and three upstairs bedrooms were also severely damaged by smoke and the water used to put out the blaze.
Watch manager Chris Hughes, from Upton Fire Station, attended the house blaze, which is thought to have been caused by candles on the bath.
He said: “The girl had climbed out of her bedroom window and on to a ledge.
“She was very distressed. Our team got her back inside and took her to safety.”
The fire brigade were called to the house at 2am and found the bathroom completely destroyed.
Mr Hughes said the bathroom was “just ash” when he saw it.
He reiterated warnings about how dangerous candles can be when left unattended and not in proper holders.
North West Ambulance Service was called and the girl was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. She was kept in hospital for observation.
