Dave gets in gear for bike ride for Claire

A WIRRAL man is cycling the length of the country.

Dave Berry, of Saughall Massie, will travel from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for Claire House.

The 25-year-old aims to complete the 875-mile course in just seven days.

He started last Sunday at 4am.

Children’s hospice Claire House receives no guaranteed government funding.

In order to provide its current care standards, the charity needs to raise £2.5m a year, something Dave is keen to contribute to.

This is Dave's first big cycling challenge and he trained for eight hours a day for the past three months.

Two friends are accompanying him and will drive ahead each day to set up camp for the night.

Dave said: “I am definitely nervous. This was something discussed over a few beers and now it is actually happening!

“I have put in a lot of long hours to get my body used to it, but I genuinely don’t know if I will complete it!

“Claire House is a great charity and does a brilliant job looking after seriously-ill children.

“I just want to raise as much money as possible.”
