THE body of a teenage girl was found on a Mersey beach.
The grim discovery was made at 7am yesterday morning by a dog walker at Fort Perch Rock, near New Brighton promenade.
Police today confirmed the teenager was 17 and a post mortem examination confirmed she died as a result of drowning.
The death of the girl, who has now been named as Hayley Holmes, is being treated as “unexplained” by detectives.
The girl’s family have been informed, police have confirmed.
Forensic officers were sent to the scene and the area was cordoned off for investigation.
Inquiries were ongoing yesterday. The ECHO understands a number of items were found near to the body and officers are trying to find out if they were in any way connected to the teenager.
