AN MP is demanding a “blue plaque” tribute on the Wirral home of Labour legend Harold Wilson.
But first Wirral South’s Alison McGovern has to pinpoint the exact location of the Bromborough property where the former prime minister lived while a sixth-former at Wirral Grammar
She said: “When we find the exact site, it will certainly be worthy of a blue plaque,” she said.
“Harold Wilson made an immense contribution to today’s Britain and he is a hero on Merseyside.”
Sir Harold moved to Bromborough aged 16 after his chemist father was made redundant in Huddersfield and got a job at ICI.
Ms McGovern said: “In his autobiography he recounted his fond memories of cycling in the countryside of Wirral and of the family pain of unemployment.
“He was certainly an inspiration to me and his story is particularly resonant now at a time of rising unemployment and recession.”
