Vicar to abseil Leasowe Lighthouse

A VICAR who is terrified of heights will hurl herself from the top of a lighthouse on Saturday.

Aline Watts, 53, will be trying to raise funds for the renovation of the choir vestry at St Chad’s Church in Leasowe, by abseiling 101 feet down the side of the lighthouse in Leasowe.

But it’s certainly not an act she takes on lightly. She said: “I’m absolutely terrified of heights.

"I get dizzy just looking out of the bedroom window” .

And it’s not just the journey down which is causing Aline some concern.

There are 130 wrought iron steps – which can be seen through – which she will have to climb before beginning her abseil.

“It wasn’t until after I had signed up that I realise that what comes down will first have to go up”, she added.
