Park Primary School pupils given a lesson in site safety by the construction team behind their new school

WALLASEY youngsters were given a lesson in site safety by the construction team behind their new school.

Pupils from Park Primary School donned hard hats and high visibility jackets for a tour to see the progress being made on the £4.3 million eco-friendly replacement for their school, on Woodstock Road.

With much of the work scheduled to take place during term time, Morgan Ashurst safety, health and environment advisor Gill Roberts and project manager Ryan Jones staged a health and safety workshop. They explained the dangers of straying onto live construction sites and why it is so important to wear protective clothing.

Ryan Jones said: “We won the job to construct Park Primary School, partly because we promised to keep children involved with the project.

“We’re determined to honour that from the word go.

“We are building the new school just metres away from the pupils and it’s our responsibility to keep them safe throughout construction.

“With the Easter holidays fast approaching, we know that some youngsters will think building sites look like fun places in which to play.

“We need to drive home the message that they can be very dangerous.”

Headteacher at Park, Hilary Ryan said: “The children greatly benefited from the opportunity to find out how building sites work.”
