A BUSINESSMAN and Wirral Councillor has launched a campaign to stop Moreton being taken over by takeaways.
Solicitor David Kirwan, an independent councillor for Hoylake and Meols and prospective independent MP for Wirral West, is behind a petition to block planning permission for several new fast food outlets.
He says he will temporarily stand down from the council’s planning committee to leave himself free to campaign on the issue.
There are currently seven takeaways in the space of a few hundred yards on Hoylake Road, with two more recently awarded planning permission and two more applications awaiting the decision of the planning committee.
Mr. Kirwan said:
“There is a real danger that Moreton will become a jungle of takeaways and a desert of shops.
“Moreton needs more greengrocers and a post office, not more chip shops.”
The petition can be signed at the offices of Kirwans Solicitors, 236 Hoylake Road, Moreton.
