Appeal for Wirral residents to recycle unwanted electrics

WIRRAL residents are being encouraged to recycle their electrics in the run up to Christmas.

As part of Recycle Nows’ campaign, people are being asked to waste less and reduce the amount of rubbish going into landfill.

This comes after a recent survey revealed that 94% of people admitted owning electrical appliances that were given to them as gifts but are now broken.

Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority and Veolia Environmental Services are now backing the initiative to try and get more people to recycle their unwanted or broken appliances.

Only a third of people recycle electrics that have been replaced, with a further 10% putting them straight into the bin.

Director of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, Carl Beer, hopes the campaign will make people more aware of the facilities available.

He said: We are delighted to be working with Recycle Now to help more people to recycle their waste electrics.

“Local residents I have spoke to say that the more convenient recycling is, the more they recycle.

“We are committed to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and this initiative will hopefully help us all manage or waste better at this busy time of year.”

Laura Underwood from Recycle Now wants to help people find out how and where to recycle electrics locally.

She said: “It easy for us all to recycle, especially during the Christmas and the New Year Period when many of us don’t know what to do with them.”

There are three banks on the Wirral where people can take their goods.

They are on Wallasey Bridge Road, Birkenhead, Mount Road, Clatterbridge, and Greenbank Road, West Kirby and are open everyday of the year except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.
