Eight years of fundraising brings a new minibus to Moreton Adult Training Centre

MORETON Adult Training Centre finally has a new minibus after eight years of fundraising.

Around 160 disabled students aged 19-60 who attend the centre are “over the moon”.

Most members of the group attend the centre daily and look forward to going out on day trips particularly to the Gordale Garden Centre, Burton, with their bus driver Peter Curtis, of Wallasey.

Barbara Moran, 71, chairman of the MATC parent’s association, said: “It seems like it has taken us ages to raise the £31,500 to buy our new minibus.

“I cannot express how important this service is to the centre.

“Having up-to-date equipment and transport is extremely beneficial to us.

“This minibus will get plenty of use, just like our old one which we are now donating to Maple House, Birkenhead – a home for the mentally handicapped.”

The money for the new service was raised by the generosity of the Moreton community who gave many donations and attended regular coffee mornings.

Barbara, who began volunteering at the centre 23 years ago after her daughter Gillian started attending, said: “We can’t thank people enough for helping us raise this money and supporting us so well over the years.

“Just attending our Christmas fairs and strawberry tea sessions makes a huge difference.”
